A local middle school teacher has been suspended after assigning explicit rap lyrics as homework to her students.
The Charter Schools of Boynton Beach confirmed an 8th grade English teacher printed out and distributed uncensored lyrics to a song from rapper 'Lil Wayne. Parents say their kids were told by the teacher to underline examples of figurative language.
We're told the lyrics include f-bombs and racial slurs, along with sexually charged innuendos.
School administrators say the lesson was for students to learn to identify literary devices. The teacher had already introduced Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare, but the students were not grasping the assignment, so the teacher used material she thought they could relate to.
The headmaster says the material did not meet the school's standards and was not approved. He also says the teacher recognizes that it was totally inappropriate. The teacher has been suspended for 3 days.
