West Palm Beach city officials and organizers of Moonfest are clashing over whether fake weapons, as part of Halloween costumes, should be allowed at the downtown event.
City spokesman Elliott Cohen says police will not allow any items that can be construed as a real weapon into Moonfest. But event organizers say the city and police already signed off on allowing faux weapons inside. Moonfest organizers say security officers have never had trouble differentiating between fake and real weapons at the event. Participants have to enter through a gate manned by private security.
The Palm Beach Post reports that more than 30,000 people are expected to attend the event.
The city has agreed not to allow anyone under the age of 21 into the event and a curfew will be in effect downtown Saturday night during Moonfest for anyone under the age of 18.
