A popular referee in Palm Beach County died while on the sidelines of a high school football game Friday night.
73-year old Jerry Lohmann was officiating a game between Wellington Community High and Olympic Heights High in Boca Raton when he was spotted by the crowd running while holding his chest and then falling to the ground.
He was taken to the hospital, and later pronounced dead.
Lohmann is being remembered as someone who many athletes in the community knew, after serving as an umpire and ref for football and baseball games for more than 30 years. He was an accountant by trade, but his son, Brian Lohmann, says sports are a big part of the family.
Students and members of the community have been taking to social media to say their goodbyes to Lohmann.
As for the football game...it was cancelled before half time.
There will be a memorial service for Jerry on Wednesday in Belle Glade.
