A record 707 individuals will take the oath of allegiance to the United States in a ceremony Friday at the South Florida Fair.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service ceremony will be the largest ever conducted by the Palm Beach County office. It takes place at 2 p.m. in the Coca-Cola Party Pavilion.
The individuals, who come from 76 countries, have met all the requirements for citizenship, including successfully passing their written test.
CJ Fam, 2013 winner of the South Florida Fair’s Starz of the Future competition and a semi-finalist of Fox’s 2013 X-Factor, will begin the ceremony with the singing of the national anthem.
The South Florida Fair included a naturalization ceremony for the first time last year, incorporating it into its Washington, D.C. theme. In 2013, 259 people took the oath.
The tradition continues this year.
The 2014 South Florida Fair’s New York City theme provides a fitting backdrop with its vignette of the Statue of Liberty and Battery Park as so many immigrants arrived in America’s past via Ellis Island in Lady Liberty’s shadow.
