Hap Erstein with PalmBeachArtsPaper.com is back from his whirlwind three week trip to France. We're happy he enjoyed himself, but missed his input at the theaters. Good thing it's been pretty slow at the box office. It's now starting to pick up and Hap gives us his take on two new films opening the weekend beginning Friday and he tells us about a South Florida film festival.
"Carrie" - This is a remake of a film from the 1970s about a teenager with telekinetic powers who uses those powers to exact revenge from the classmates that make fun of her. Chloe Grace Moretz plays the title character ( the one made famous by Sissy Spacek) and Julianne Moore is her mother in this film. Hap says it's very much like the original film, but filmmakers can do so much more with special effects these days.
"The Fifth Estate" - The Julian Assange story brought to life on the big screen. It's a look at the early days of WikiLeaks.
"Escape Plan" - It's billed as an "action-thriller", starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Hap's Art House Pick of the Week
The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival - As Hap says, why give us one pick, when he can give us nearly 200 of them. Films will be playing throughout Broward County, if you don't mind the drive. The Film Festival gets underway on Friday and runs through November 11.
